Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

 

Uttering Threats:

On Friday evening, the Brandon Police Service was alerted to a male making comments on a social media site about conducting a mass shooting. On the suspect’s social media page, Police located pictures of the suspect with numerous firearms. The threatening comments were also confirmed. A Warrant to search the suspect’s residence in the 700 Block of 6th Street was obtained and the Tactical Response Unit deployed to execute the search warrant. At approximately 11:30 P.M., the male suspect exited his residence and was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the residence recovered the firearms, which were all found to be airsoft. The 26-year-old man was arrested for Uttering Threats and lodged at the Police Service. He is scheduled to appear in Court in November.  

   

Arrest Warrants Executed:

  • At approximately 5:30 A.M. this morning, Police responded to a disturbance inside a residence in the 800 Block of Rosser Avenue. A male and female were located and the male was found to be on conditions to have no contact or communication with the female. The male was also found to have an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Failing to Comply with a Release Order. The 38-year-old man from Brandon was arrested and lodged at the Police Service. He is scheduled to appear in Court later today.

 

  • On Friday morning, Police arrested an 18-year-old female on an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for failing to appear for fingerprints. The female was released and is scheduled to appear in Court in November.

 

  • A 28-year-old man from Brandon turned himself into Police for having an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for failing to attend for fingerprints. He was arrested and released to attend court in November.

 

Impaired Driving:

On Friday at approximately 2:50 P.M.,  Police stopped a vehicle in the 1800 Block of First Street for travelling 50 km/h in a 30 km/h school zone. An open bottle of liquor was observed near the driver and a breath demand was made on the roadside screening device, resulting in a fail. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Police Service where breath samples obtained exceeded the legal limit. The driver was also found to be prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. The 20-year-old male suspect was arrested for Driving While Impaired, Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood and Prohibited Driving. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in November.

 

Domestic Assault:

At approximately 12:05 P.M., Police responded to an east end residence after receiving a 911 call. A female was located and disclosed that her boyfriend punched her the face and struck her over the head with a bicycle helmet. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance. The 33-year-old male suspect left the residence prior to Police arrival but was located a short time later and arrested for Assault with a Weapon. He was lodged at the Police Service and later released to attend Court in November. The victim was released from hospital after receiving medical treatment.

 

Other Arrests: 

  • One individual was arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Police Service for release when sober.
