Assault Peace Officer

On March 3, 2020, police responded to a report of the theft of a bottle of whiskey from a business in the 1000 block of Victoria Ave shortly after 1:00 pm. The male suspect walked out of the business and police located him nearby.

When police attempted to arrest the suspect, he resisted by attempting to strike an officer with the stolen bottle. The officer was able to gain control of the suspect and arrest him. No injuries were sustained.

In the suspect’s possession at the time of his arrest was a hatchet.

The 43-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. He will appear in court today on charges of Assault Peace Officer, Resist Arrest, Theft Under $5000 and Possession of a Weapon.

 

Aggravated Assault

On January 24, 2020, police received a report of an assault, which occurred at Brandon Correctional Centre. An adult male inmate was transported to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation later revealed that seven other inmates were responsible for the assault, in which they used pieces of furniture to assault the victim.

Five suspects are still in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre. Three 25-year-old males, a 20-year-old male, and a 19-year-old male will appear in court today on charges of Aggravated Assault, and Assault with a Weapon.

The remaining two suspects will face the same charges once arrested.

 

Carry Concealed Weapon

On March 3, 2020 at approximately 11:00 pm, police responded to a complaint of a female who was harassing patrons at a business in the 700 block of 10th street. The 35-year-old female was found to be wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court.

Following her arrest, police located two knives on the female, which she had concealed in elbow pads on each of her forearms. The female was to abide by conditions not to possess any weapons. She was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Fail to Attend Court, Carry Concealed Weapon, and Breach of Release Order.

Operate a Conveyance While Prohibited

On March 3, 2020, police conducted a traffic stop on E Fotheringham Drive after 9:00 pm. The driver proceeded to attempt to walk away from the stop, but police prevented him from doing so.

The driver was found to be prohibited from driving. He was also to abide by conditions on a Recognizance not to operate a motor vehicle, and not to be in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

The 32-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today.

The vehicle the suspect was operating was seized and impounded. It was not registered to him.

 

Breach of Peace

On March 3, 2020, police responded to a request for assistance from several youth care workers as they were attempting to deescalate a male youth in their care shortly after 4:00 pm. The youth was attempting to hit the workers, and they were unable to keep him safe or prevent his behavior from escalating. The 14-year-old male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre.

 

Breach of Peace

On March 3, 2020, police received a request to remove an unwanted male from a residence shortly before 4:00 pm. The 43-year-old male was intoxicated and acting in a threatening manner towards others in the home. The male was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre to prevent the situation from escalating.

 

Fail to Comply with Undertaking

On March 3, 2020, police received a report of an individual who was harassing patrons inside a business in the 900 block of Victoria Ave. The 40-year-old male suspect admitted to being under the influence of illicit drugs at the time. He was to abide by conditions not to consume drugs, and not to attend the business. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Fail to Comply with Undertaking.

 

Arrest Warrant

On March 3, 2020, police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated female trying to gain access to an apartment building in the 1500 block of 26th street. Police located the 34-year-old female who was found to be wanted on an outstanding charge of Contempt of Court. She was lodged at Brandon correctional Centre and will appear in court today.

 

Arrest Warrants

On March 3, 2020, three other individuals were also located and arrested on outstanding charges. They will each appear in court later this month.
