Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Attempt Break and Enter to Garage:

On Tuesday morning, a resident in the 300 Block 17th Street reported that someone tried to break into the detached garage within the past 24 hours. Police attended and observed damage to the walk-in door that was caused during the unsuccessful attempt to break in. Police continue to investigate.  

 

Break and Enter to Garage:

On Tuesday evening, a resident from the 300 Block 16th Street reported a Break and Enter to their garage that occurred sometime between July 12th and July 14th. Officers attended and learned that entry was gained by breaking a side window. Approximately $4000 in power tools and lawn equipment was stolen. The Police investigation continues.  

 

Domestic Assault, Possession of Incendiary Devices, Utter Threats:

At approximately 3:50 A.M., Police responded to a residence in the east end of the city after a female reported that her boyfriend assaulted her earlier and he is currently in the residence holding a gas can with the stove turned on and he is threatening to burn the home down. The victim further reported that the male threatened to kill her if she called Police and she was forced to barricade herself in a room to protect herself. Officers attended and located the male holding the gas can in one hand and a candle in his other hand. A small flame was observed on the stove from paper towels that had been lit of fire. Officers were able to deescalate the situation and the male was taken into custody without further incident. Police also located and seized a set of brass knuckles and a conducted energy weapon (Taser) from the male suspect. The victim did not require medical assistance and disclosed that she had been punched and pushed multiple times by the suspect. The 53-year-old male suspect was arrested for Assault, Utter Threats to Cause Death, Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Possession of Incendiary Devices. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Court later today.

 

Theft Under $5000:

On Tuesday afternoon, Police received a report that an employee of a business in the 1000 Block of 10th Street chased down and apprehended a female shoplifter. Police located both the employee and suspect in the 1100 Block of 9th Street where the suspect was taken into Police custody. Investigation determined that the suspect stole merchandise from the store before fleeing and being caught by the employee. The 18 year old female suspect was highly intoxicated and lodged at the Police Service after being arrested for Theft Under $5000. She was released once sober and is scheduled to appear in Court in September.

 

Other Arrests: 

  • Three individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Police Service to be released once sober.
  • One individual was detained under the Intoxicated Person Detention Act.
