Theft by Person Holding Power of Attorney

In July 2019, police received a complaint of the theft of approximately $180,000 from an estate. The suspect of the theft was the power of attorney for the estate.

An ongoing investigation into the matter led to the arrest of the 76-year-old male suspect on February 19, 2020. He will appear in court on April 16, 2020 on charges of Theft by Person Holding Power of Attorney and Theft Over $5000.

 

Arrest

On February 19, 2020, at approximately 1:20 pm, police responded to a report of a male who was approaching multiple individuals, claiming he had a gun and that he was not afraid to use it. The information police originally received was that the male was in the area of the 100 block of 10th street.

Police located and arrested the suspect near 7th St. and Rosser Ave, at approximately 1:30 pm. The only item he had in his possession was a book. There is no indication he was ever in possession of a weapon.

Police believed the adult male suspect was suffering from mental health crisis at the time of his arrest. He was taken to receive care for his mental health.

 

Mischief Under $5000

On December 12, 2019, police received a report of damage to a window at a business in the 000 block of 7th street. A 31-year-old male suspect intentionally caused the damage, and was identified by witnesses. The suspect left the scene and could not be located at the time.

On February 19, 2020, police located the suspect and arrested him. He will appear in court on April 16, 2020.

 

Theft Under $5000

On February 5, 2020, police received a report of the theft of merchandise from a business in the 900 block of Victoria Ave. Employees were able to retrieve the stolen property from the suspects; however, they fled the area and were not arrested.

On February 19, 2020, the 46-year-old female suspect and 43-year-old male suspect were located and arrested for the theft. They will each appear in court on April 14, 2020 on charges of Theft Under $5000 and Breach of Probation.

 

Fail to Comply with Release Order

On February 19, 2020 shortly after 10:00 pm, while investigating another matter, police came across a 26-year-old female who was failing to abide by her conditions to reside at a specific address. The female had moved to a new residence without the permission of the courts. She was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today.

 

Fail to comply with Release Order/ Public Mischief

On February 19, 2020, shortly before 11:00 pm, police received a report from employees at a business in the 900 block of Victoria Ave of a female who was in the business contrary to her conditions.

Police located a female there, but she initially provided a false name before officers were able to confirm her identity. The suspect was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

The 27-year-old female was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and will appear in court today on charges of Fail to Comply with Release Order X 2, and Public Mischief.

 

IPDA

On February 19, 2020, police responded to a report of an intoxicated male in the 2500 block of McDonald Ave. The 19-year-old male was located and arrested. He had nowhere to stay as he was from a rural community, and there was no one to care for him. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre until sober.
