For the past 24 hours:

Youth Transported to Winnipeg:

A 15 year-old female was taken into custody under authority of the Youth Drug Stabilization (Support for Parents) Act.  She was subsequently transported to the facility in Winnipeg, and left in the care of staff.

Arrest Warrants Executed:

At about 12:10 PM Friday afternoon, a member on patrol downtown observed a 23 year-old female, whom the member knew had an outstanding warrant for arrest.  The warrant was for failing to comply with a Probation Order, and the accused was arrested without issue.  After processing, the female was released and is scheduled to appear in court on October 5th.

A 47 year-old male was arrested in the 2700 block Victoria Avenue at around 6:30 PM Friday on the strength of an arrest warrant for possession of property obtained by crime and failing to attend court.  After processing, the accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on October 30th.

A 25 year-old female was arrested at about 1:20 AM Saturday morning in the 1400 block Louise Avenue on the strength of an unendorsed warrant for arrest for failing to comply with conditions of a release order.  She was held in custody and will appear before the court this morning.

Officers Assaulted:

An 18 year-old male was brought into custody around 3:00 PM Friday afternoon after officers responded to a mother’s 911 call that her sons were fighting and her daughter had been injured during the melee.  The male was being held without charges, until the situation calmed enough, for everyone’s safety, that he could be released.  Just after 11:00 PM though, while being escorted to the bathroom by cell security officers, the male refused to return to his cell.  An officer attended and was able to de-escalate the situation with the male agreeing to return to his cell; however, at the cell door, the male escalated and initiated a physical confrontation.  The two cell security officers and the police officer were able to restrain the accused but additional officers were required to further control him. As a result of his actions, he is now facing three counts of assaulting a peace officer, and one count of resisting arrest.  He will be released from custody later today and is scheduled to appear in court on November 6th.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered, Driver Impaired:

At 3:35 AM this morning, members were travelling westbound in the 700 block Princess Avenue when a white SUV turned onto the avenue and began travelling in the wrong direction, towards Police.  The SUV had a tire missing and was travelling on a rim. Police activated emergency equipment, but the SUV continued to drive, ultimately ending up in the ditch near 1st Street and PTH 110 intersection.  The 34 year-old female driver refused to exit the vehicle, showed signs of impairment, and provided a false name to Police.  The owner of the vehicle was contacted and confirmed that it had indeed been stolen just prior.  As a result, the accused is facing numerous charges, including: public mischief, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while prohibited, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Other Arrests:

At about 2:50 PM Friday afternoon, a 22 year-old female, who was intoxicated on paint thinner, was taken into custody for her own safety, after she was observed acting bizarrely near the corner of 18th St & Richmond Ave.  She will be released once sober enough to care for herself.

A 16 year-old female was brought into custody after forcing her way into the residence of a family member, but where she was not welcome because she was intoxicated. She will be held until sober and can be turned over to a responsible guardian.

At around 3:40 AM this morning, an intoxicated 42 year-old female called Police reporting she was having trouble with her husband.  When members attended, it was found that she was the issue, and she was brought into custody to prevent the situation from escalating.  She will be released when sober.

Released Authorized By:

A/Staff Sgt. D. Lockhart, #101
