Brandon Police Service Media Release for the Past 24 Hours.

Flight from Police et al.

A 30 year old man from Austin was arrested on Monday morning for numerous offences after three incidents on the weekend. Around 1:24 am on August 9th, an officer stopped a vehicle travelling the wrong direction on Princess Ave. The male driver provided his identification and then drove off. The officer pursued the vehicle, however due to high speeds, the pursuit was cancelled on Rosser Ave. The owner of the vehicle was located who advised the male driver had taken the vehicle. He was on a court order to not communicate with the r/o as well. At 11:14 am on Sunday, the female owner of the vehicle called police to report the man had assaulted her and stolen the vehicle in the parking lot of the Brandon Shoppers Mall. After stealing the vehicle, the man drove through the parking lot erratically and the wrong way on 18th St south. He left the area and could not be located. At 9:40 pm, an officer noticed the suspect vehicle in a parking lot on Willowdale Crs. As the officer stopped his police cruiser, the driver sat up in the front seat, reversed the vehicle, striking the police cruiser and fled at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle was briefly pursued but due to high rate of speeds the pursuit was stopped.   Warrants for all three of these incidents were requested. On Monday morning, the Brandon RCMP were advised by a caller that the suspect was in a residence in Souris. He was arrested there by the RCMP and turned over to BPS. On Monday afternoon, he appeared in court and was released for a later court date. The charges include Flight from Police x 2, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle x 3 , Drive Prohibited x 3, Breach of Undertaking x 3, Assault (Domestic), Theft of Motor Vehicle, Take Motor Vehicle w/o Owners Consent.

A garage on Waterloo Crescent was entered on Sunday night. The overhead door was left partially open allowing the suspects to push it further open to gain entry. The owner received an alarm and discovered a lock had been cut to gain entry and several lockers were entered. It is unknown at this time if anything was stolen
