Fraud Over $5000
On January 31, 2023, police received a report of suspected fraud. A family member who was granted Power of Attorney status discovered anomalies in banking records of the victim, which prompted an investigation into the matter.
The victim wrote numerous cheques to a 50-year-old male suspect between March 2018 and October 2022. The cheques totaled approximately $44,000. The suspect met the victim while he was conducting contracted work at the housing complex where the victim resided.
On December 12, 2023, the 50-year-old male was arrested and later released to appear in court on February 5, 2024, on a charge of Fraud Over $5000.
