Postponement of Green Cart Collection

April 19, 2024

Brandon, MB - The City of Brandon Solid Waste section have come to the unfortunate decision to postpone Green Cart collection until future notice due to unforeseen staffing shortages.

We know that the Green Cart program is a popular program, with over 10,000 participating households. The City of Brandon Solid Waste Section appreciate the commitment that residents have made to prevent these household organics from being added to the landfill tipping face. Over 2,000 tonnes of material is diverted from the Eastview Landfill Site on an annual basis that will eventually produce a valuable product - compost.

Although we know this is a disruption in service, we feel that this decision provides the least impact overall to how the Solid Waste section operates day to day. There are other options for residents to divert these materials from the landfill, such as using the depots located throughout the community, and/or bringing excess materials to the Eastview Landfill Site. To locate the community depot nearest you, and for landfill operating hours, please visit https://www.brandon.ca/solid-waste. As a reminder, the only depot that does not currently accept green cart material is the Keystone Centre. Please refrain from placing your green carts out until further notification takes place.

The City of Brandon appreciate the public's patience during this service change. If you have any questions, please call the Solid Waste section at 204-729-2281, or email solidwaste@brandon.ca.
