Update On The City's Snow Clearing Efforts For March 7, 2024

March 7, 2024

Brandon, MB – This week, Brandon has experienced a substantial 46+ centimeters of snowfall. As a result, our snow-clearing efforts have escalated to an “extreme snow response.”

Our primary focus is on ensuring movement, prioritizing getting people moving in all neighborhoods. While sightlines, street widening, and snow removal are essential, they will be addressed as part of our secondary response. Our dedicated crews are working tirelessly around the clock to clear the snow. We understand the frustration caused by this significant snow volume, and we remain committed to ensuring safe passage for everyone.

Currently, our crews are actively working in Zone C and Zone B. If you live in either of these zones, please work with us to have your vehicle removed from the street whenever possible. With the amount of snowfall we have received, if your vehicle is left on the street, there may be a windrow around it that leaves your vehicle difficult to move.

The City of Brandon appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this winter storm. Drivers are urged to exercise caution on snowy or icy roads, and residents are encouraged to respect the snow removal crews’ workspace. Remember, we will get to your street as soon as possible!

Update on Solid Waste Residential Collection

Our Solid Waste team is currently facing challenges where garbage and recycling bins are picked up in the front street areas, particularly in cul-de-sacs and corners. Our trucks are finding it difficult to navigate due to the substantial snow accumulation on the streets. Yesterday, we inadvertently missed some pickups, but we are committed to addressing this promptly. If you have a missed pickup, please report it online at brandon.ca/report-an-issue.

As we venture into areas with more front street exposure, our crews may encounter difficulties reaching all the carts. The placement of residents’ carts plays a crucial role. Unfortunately, in some cases, carts have been left partway up driveways, making them inaccessible for collection. We kindly ask residents in these affected areas to anticipate delays. If possible, consider holding off on putting out your carts until next week, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Additionally, our loader is diligently performing touch-ups and clearing any lanes that may have been overlooked. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we strive to ensure safe and efficient snow removal.
