2023 Brandon Green Business Award

BRANDON, MB — The City of Brandon in partnership with the Brandon Chamber of Commerce is excited to launch the Brandon Green Business Awards for the second year. 

The purpose of the Brandon Green Business Awards is to recognize and celebrate businesses that have taken the initiative to employ efforts in sustainability, water conservation, and waste diversion efforts.

These initiatives must be something that the business has implemented. Applicants are encouraged to express current and future sustainability improvements. The initiative must not be mandated due to a federal, provincial, or municipal law, by-law, or other body of rules.


Award categories include: 

  • Small business (less than 100 employees)

  • Large business (more than 100 employees)

  • Not-for-profit organizations


Green initiative ideas include:

  • Becoming a fair-trade workplace or retailer

  • Switching to energy efficient bulbs or appliances where applicable

  • Creative ways to reuse/recycle goods, products, materials etc.

  • Encourage or implement a green commuting strategy

  • Water conservation


The award criteria are not limited to the options above. Businesses are strongly encouraged to produce their own ideas. 

The application deadline is Friday, October 20, 2023. Applications will be reviewed by a committee to ensure eligibility. Eligible businesses will be given a certificate to proudly display and will be entered to win a fair-trade coffee break, compliments of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and the City of Brandon.

Participant’s accomplishments will be celebrated on the City’s social media platforms with a team photo, a write up of their initiative and what they achieved with their efforts.

Past Winners: 

  • Small business NeoNutes- small business locally producing micro greens through aquaponics and is a zero-waste company. 

  • Large business- Brandon University Physical Plant has implemented several sustainability practices including green cleaning, sustainable gardens, carpool parking and upgrading LED bulbs. 

 

Businesses must be located within the city limits of Brandon to qualify for the Brandon Green Business Award. Questions about the program can be sent to the City of Brandon’s Environmental Initiatives Coordinator Lindsay Hargreaves at l.hargreaves@brandon.ca
