Eligibility
Nominations
A person is qualified to be nominated for and elected as a trustee if the person
(a) is a Canadian citizen;
(b) is at least 18 years of age on Election Day:
(c) is an eligible voter of the school division (either a resident of the school division or resident of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation for at least 6 months before Election Day), (as of April 28, 2026)
(d) is not subject to disqualification under The Public Schools Act or any other Act.
The Public Schools Act disqualifies the following persons from being nominated:
• a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba or the Senate or House of Commons of Canada;
• a pupil in regular attendance at a school within the division
Eligibility to Vote
A person who is a resident of a reserve is eligible to vote in an election in the Brandon School Division if the person is:
(a) a Canadian citizen;
(b) at least 18 years old on election day; and
(c) a resident of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation reserve on election day and has been so for at least the six months before election day. (As of April 28, 2026).
