The City of Brandon is committed to strengthening our urban forest, improving neighbourhood green spaces, and supporting long‑term environmental sustainability. In 2026, residents can participate in two complementary tree‑planting programs:

Both programs encourage residents to take an active role in enhancing Brandon’s tree canopy while following City guidelines to ensure safe, healthy, and sustainable planting.
🌱 1. Private Property Tree Reimbursement Program
Program Purpose
This program supports homeowners who wish to plant trees on their own property, helping expand Brandon’s urban canopy, improve air quality, increase biodiversity, and reduce summer energy use through natural shade.
Program Objectives

Environmental Impact: Increase tree cover on private land to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

Community Engagement: Encourage residents to beautify neighbourhoods and participate in environmental stewardship.

Energy Savings: Promote strategic planting that can reduce cooling costs during summer months.

Biodiversity: Support native and hardy species suitable for Manitoba’s Zone 2b climate.
Eligibility Requirements

Location: Property must be within the City of Brandon.

Property Type: Private residential properties only (single-family, duplex, small multi‑family).

Planting Area: Trees must be planted exclusively on private property, not on boulevards, sidewalks, or parks.

Tree Species: Must be suitable for Manitoba and/or Zone 2b.
Program Details
Reimbursement Amount

Up to $300 total per property (multiple trees allowed, but total reimbursement cannot exceed $300).
Approved Costs

Purchase of eligible tree saplings from approved vendors.
Planting Guidelines

Trees must be planted in compliance with municipal regulations.

Avoid conflicts with utilities, sidewalks, driveways, and structures.

Follow best practices for spacing, depth, and long‑term growth.
Maintenance Requirements

Homeowners must maintain the tree(s) for at least two years, including watering, mulching, and general care.

Program Purpose
The Green Streets initiative allows residents to participate in planting trees on approved City‑owned spaces, such as boulevards or designated public green areas adjacent to their homes. This program enhances public spaces while supporting climate resilience and community beautification.

How the Program Works

Planting Residents may participate in planting following City guidelines.

Application Process
1. Pre-Approval
Homeowners submit an application form with details about their property, the proposed tree species that are Manitoba and/or zone 2b friendly, and the planting location on private property. The tree must be planted in an area designated on the property that complies with all municipal regulations.
2. Purchase and Planting
Once pre-approved, homeowners will get $300.00 one-time use voucher. Voucher can be used at one of the three below local green houses.Â
