Contamination means items that are not accepted through curbside collection (ex. Tree waste, scrap metal, oversized items, etc) OR placing items in the wrong carts (ex. Waste in your recycling cart, waste or recycling in your organics (green) cart, etc.)

If you’ve received a notice about cart contamination or you suspect your carts were not collected because of contamination, you will need to dispose of the contaminated materials outside of the curbside collection by bringing the material to Eastview Landfill (may be subject to applicable fees).

No. Currently, residents pay to dispose of waste (any non-divertable materials) and some divertible materials that come with high removal costs (like freon devices, etc).

This means that if you are bringing in an old microwave (Electronic Waste), washing machine (Scrap Metal) and worn-out tires (Tire Stewardship Program) you will not have to pay anything to access the landfill.

Residents are responsible for clearing a section along the back lane or front street collection point to ensure carts remain on flat even surface. This includes when your collection point is on the opposite side of the lane.

WRARS Levy stands for Waste Reduction & Recycling Support Levy which is a $10 per tonne fee charged on all waste disposed at a waste management facility in Manitoba. The fees collected are remitted to the Province of Manitoba.

You can reduce the amount paid towards this levy through diversion of materials by recycling, re-use, donation or utilizing the many diversion programs throughout Eastview Landfill.

The Post Closure Levy is a fee charged on all waste disposed at the Eastview Landfill. The funds collected through this levy are placed into a reserve that will help offset the cost of the closure and continued maintenance after closure of the landfill.

The Eastview Landfill is currently estimated to close by 2054 and must be maintained and monitored for 25 years after closure activities are completed.
