The City of Brandon's Open Data Initiative is part of its broader Open Government strategy, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and civic engagement. This includes:

 

Open Government Portal

Brandon’s Open Government portal is designed to provide residents with meaningful access to municipal data and performance metrics. It includes:

  • Corporate Scorecard: A tool that tracks and reports on the city's long-term goals and departmental strategies. Metrics include transit ridership, 911 nuisance calls, and tree planting efforts.
  • Open Data Catalogue: A centralized repository of datasets available in various formats (CSV, HTML, Shapefile). These datasets cover a wide range of topics such as:
    • Election results
    • Building permits
    • Planning applications
    • Parks and bike paths
    • Property and tax information
    • Environmental data like mosquito trap counts and river levels
  • Tools and Features
    • lip, Zip & Ship: A spatial data tool that allows users to select and export geographic data in multiple formats.
    • APIs: Developers can use APIs to integrate city data into apps or services.
