The City Manager is the senior appointed official of the City of Brandon, serving as the liaison between Council and Administration. He supports Council in setting the strategic direction of the City and provides informed advice based upon analysis, judgement and best practices observed in other jurisdictions.
The City Manager collaborates with leaders in other cities and communities as well as the Federal and Provincial Governments on issues that impact Brandon. He also ensures that City affairs are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, and plans as established by Federal, Provincial, and Local Government.
By building strong relationships with local businesses and organizations the City Manager stays connected with the community. He regularly seeks feedback to ensure that the corporation’s strategic direction, and the level of civic service delivery, is appropriate to meet Brandon’s needs and objectives, and that innovation is applied to develop solutions when needed.
Dave Wardrop brings over 30 years of municipal leadership experience as both a professional engineer and a chartered professional accountant. He attained both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in civil engineering as well as his MBA from the University of Manitoba. In 2022, Dave was honored to be recognized by CPA Manitoba as a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) for professional and community achievement. Dave has also developed extensive experience as a Chief Administrative Officer and has led numerous municipal operations, projects, and organizations during his career.
Dave believes that competence, commitment, and integrity are the foundations of municipal leadership. He believes that the key to developing capable and efficient teams is trusting and investing in staff to provide them with the tools and ability to perform effectively. By maintaining a strategic focus, and by balancing his business and technical mindsets, Dave works to align people and organizations to achieve ambitious goals.
