Special Event Fire Permit

When a group of individuals (private citizens or businesses) wishes to have a one-time event that includes having a fire in a temporary fire pit, it is required to obtain a Special Event Fire Permit from Brandon Fire & Emergency Services.

Special Event Fire Permit Requirements & Application


Items to be addressed are as follows:

  1. Obtain written permission from the property owner or agent of the land (if different than the applicant).
  2. A diagram / site plan that includes the location of the Special Event Fire in relation to any combustible material, structures in the surrounding area as well as approximate separation distances to these combustible materials, structures.
  3. Written description of the precautions that will be taken by the applicant to ensure that the proposed Special Event Fire remains under his/her control.
  4. The temporary fire pit shall be no larger than 75 cm (30”) in diameter or 50 cm (20”) in height/depth.
  5. The temporary fire pit shall be placed on a non-combustible surface and this surface shall extend 16 cm (6”) past the outside edge of the fire pit appliance.
  6. The temporary fire pit shall include a fine screen spark arrestor with spacing at all opening no larger than 1.25 cm (1/2”). This spark arrestor shall be in place on top of the fire pit appliance at all times during the use of the fire pit.
  7. There shall be no combustible material within 1.5 m (5’) of the temporary fire pit. A minimum 3A10BC dry chemical fire extinguisher shall accompany the fire pit.
  8. Fire to be supervised at all times.
  9. Safe disposal of the contents of the fire pit upon completion of the event is required.
  10. An inspection of the proposed site may be required prior to issuing the permit.
  11. Once you have reviewed all the above Special Event Fire Permit Requirements, complete the attached Special Event Fire Permit Application and email it along with all of the above information to fire@brandon.ca
  12. This permit application is to be completed in full and submitted to Brandon Fire & Emergency Services one (1) week prior to date of the Special Event Fire. (No late applications will be considered).
