City Council Meeting Highlights - June 1, 2026

City of Brandon Summer Youth Activity Centres (YAC)
The City operates three YAC sites for youth ages 7–15, offering a variety of free programming focused on sports, arts and crafts, theme days, and snacks. Registration is now open. Learn more at brandon.ca/yac.
 
Council received a presentation from the Manitoba Property Assessment Services on the impact of the 2027 property reassessment.
 
Council received a presentation providing an overview of the 2025 wildfire season.
 
Council received a presentation on Open Streets Brandon, a pilot initiative to create a temporary, accessible active transportation route along Lorne Avenue between Rideau Park and Stanley Park. The route will be open as a car-free corridor on July 19, Aug. 16, and Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Council received a presentation from the Community Safety & Wellbeing Plan Steering Committee.
 
 
Council received an update on the Underground Utilities dig restoration update for spring 2026. Restoration work began on Tue, May 19 with staff working to complete asphalt, concrete, and landscaping restorations.
 
Council approved the commemorative naming of two protected areas along the Assiniboine River Corridor, with proposed Indigenous names Oeti and Shunkawakan Onazin. A grand opening for the protected areas will take place on Mon, June 22, 2026at the Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre.
 
By-Laws
  • Council approved By-law No. 7444 to rezone property located at 856 & 862 – 1st Street from RMD Residential Moderate Density to RHD Residential High Density to allow for the development of a 20-unit residential building.
  • Council approved By-law No. 7452, an amendment to the Traffic By-Law to allow digital parking payment. Parking meters will be utilized to allow for both coin and digital options at this time.
  • Council approved By-law No. 7445 to close and convey of a portion of 11th St. E. to allow for future development.
  • Council gave first reading to By-law No. 7455 to rezone a portion of 1900 – 34th St. for future development.
  • Council gave first reading to By-law No. 7457 to rezone 1910 Bell Ave from DR Development Reserve to RMD Residential Moderate Density to allow for future development.
 
The next regular City Council meeting will be held on Mon, June 15, 2026, at 7 p.m.
