Incident at Brandon Correctional Centre – Staff Member Injured

Brandon Police Service is deeply concerned for the well-being of the staff member injured in the recent incident at Brandon Correctional Centre. Our thoughts are with the individual and his family.

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 8:44 PM, Brandon Police Service responded to a report of a stabbing at the Brandon Correctional Centre, located at 375 Veterans Way. A 41-year-old male inmate stabbed a 47-year-old male staff member twice in the back. The injured staff member was transported by ambulance to the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The injuries sustained are considered non-life threatening.

The Brandon Police Service Major Crimes Section attended the scene and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

 

Charges pending include:

  • Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Assault Peace Officer Causing Bodily Harm
  • Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer

 

This incident is being taken very seriously. Brandon Correctional Centre is working closely with law enforcement and an internal review to examine the circumstances and reinforce safety measures for both staff and inmates has been launched.

 

The male’s first appearance in court is May 7th, 2025.
