Police News Release - October 9th, 2025

Assault

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police were notified of an assault involving a 28-year-old male and a 31-year-old female in the 2300 block of Ottawa Avenue. It was reported that the male had physically assaulted his girlfriend by punching her in the face. The male was arrested and later released on an Undertaking with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 22, 2025.

 

IPDA (Intoxicated Persons Detention Act)

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 7:40 a.m., police were notified of a disturbance involving a 21-year-old male who was reportedly causing a disruption while inside a vehicle belonging to an acquaintance. The male was intoxicated by alcohol and was said to be attempting to break a window with his hand. Police attended the scene in the 1500 block of 18th Street where they had parked. Police arrested the male without further incident. He was transported to Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells and held until sober.

 

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm / Careless Storage of a Firearm / Storage of a Firearm Contrary to Regulations

On October 8th, 2025, at approximately 9:31 p.m., while at a residence in the 600 block of 11th Street on an unrelated matter, police noticed six unrestricted firearms that were not being stored in accordance with proper storage regulations. As a result of the discovery, a 63-year-old male resident was charged with firearms-related offences noted above. He was released on an Undertaking with a court date scheduled for December 18, 2025.

 

Assault with a Weapon / Possession of a Dangerous Weapon

On October 8, 2025, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Brandon Police Service responded to a report of an assault involving a 50-year-old female in the 2200 block of Rosser Avenue. The victim was transported by ambulance to Brandon Regional Health Centre for medical treatment.

Investigation determined that the woman had been assaulted by her 28-year-old son following a dispute. It is believed the suspect used a metal bicycle pole—specifically, the seat post—as a weapon during the assault. The victim sustained a laceration to her chin, a swollen eye, and a sore jaw. No broken bones were reported.

Within the hour, just after 11:00 a.m., officers located and arrested the 28-year-old male suspect. He was transported to BPS detention cells where he remained in custody for court.

This file remains under investigation.

 

Breach of the Peace

In the past 24 hours one individual was arrested for Breach of the Peace. A 30-year-old male was arrested, held in detention cells and will be released in the morning once calm/sober.
