Disorderly in Licensed Premise

On November 16th at 7:17 p.m. security from a hotel in the 3100 block of Victoria Avenue requested police remove an unwanted intoxicated male who was causing issues and refusing to leave. The 53-year-old male was arrested and held in Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells to be released in the morning once sober.

Breach of Probation with New Charges

On November 16th at 8:22 p.m., police responded to a reported altercation near a business in the 000 block of 10th Street, where individuals were said to be armed with a machete and bear spray. When officers arrived, the group dispersed, and the male carrying the machete fled on foot. He was pursued and taken into custody near the 000 block of 13th Street, where officers seized both the machete and bear mace. In addition to an outstanding Arrest Warrant being executed, the 20-year-old male now faces new charges of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (x1) and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (x2).

Possible Firearm Incident

On November 16th at approximately 11:03 p.m., a witness in the 300 block of 12th Street reported hearing two loud pops and seeing flashes from the driver’s side window of a dark SUV parked in a nearby alley. The vehicle then left the area at a high rate of speed. No licence plate or vehicle make and model were obtained, and no occupants were seen. Additional callers also reported hearing the noise. A neighbourhood canvass was conducted, and no evidence of a shooting was located. The incident remains under investigation.

Arrest Warrants

In the past 24 hours, officers executed seven additional arrest warrants. Three individuals were held for court, while three others were released on Appearance Notices. A 49-year-old male with a Canada-wide unendorsed warrant from 2019 for being Unlawfully at Large was taken into custody and subsequently transported to hospital due to medical concerns. The individual was cooperative with police and medical staff and remained in hospital care. The outstanding warrant will be addressed once his medical needs have been resolved.

Heyyy – You Can’t Park There

You may have seen a police cruiser on its side at 14th Street and Victoria Avenue on Friday evening, or the posts circulating online afterward. Because we believe in transparency and keeping our community informed, we want to clarify what happened.

We are relieved to report that no one was seriously injured, and our officers are safe.

On the evening of Friday, November 14th, two officers (in one cruiser) were responding to an urgent request for assistance from a colleague when they encountered an unexpected situation—the cruiser struck a curb followed by the base of a tree, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side.

Both officers sustained only minor injuries and were assessed and cleared on scene by EMS. The cruiser was towed, and BPS Cadets assisted with traffic control.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the public for the many messages of support and concern. Your kindness means a great deal to our members.
