Police News Release - May 8th, 2026

Breach of the Peace
In the past 24 hours three individuals from separate incidents were arrested due to Breach of the Peace. They were each brought to BPS detention cells to prevent the continuation of behaviour and will be released once sober/calm.
Fraud Under $5000
On May 7th, a 48-year-old male was arrested and charged with Fraud Under $5,000 after posting an online advertisement offering sea can containers for sale. Earlier that morning, the suspect met with a buyer in the 800 block of Victoria Avenue and accepted $1,500 in cash for the two containers that were to be picked up at 5:00 p.m. that day.
It was later determined that the sea cans belonged to a business located in the 300 block of Pacific Avenue and were not for sale. Investigators were able to positively identify the suspect after the buyers provided a photograph showing the male holding the cash. Police subsequently located the suspect at a hotel in the 100 block of 5th Street at approximately 4:22 p.m., where he was arrested. The accused was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2nd, 2026.
Theft Under $5000
On March 12th a 23-year-old female suspect was caught on surveillance video stealing over $300 of clothing from a store in Corral Centre. The woman was identified and on May 7th she was arrested, charged and later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 9th, 2026.
Arrest Warrant
On May 7th a 30-year-old male was located at his home on Cornell Bay and arrested on the strength of his Warrant for Arrest (Failure to Comply Release Order). The male was later released via Appearance Notice with a future court date of June 8th, 2026.
Possession of a Weapon
On May 8th at approximately 2:41 p.m., police responded to a call in the 300 block of 16th Street following reports of an intoxicated male yelling and causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed the male answer the door while holding a machete and yelling at police. Officers issued commands, which the 20-year-old male complied with, and he was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at BPS detention cells. The accused will be released once sober on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 20th, 2026.
Motor Vehicle Collision
On May 8th at 3:24 a.m. BPS was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident ay Highway #1 and 18th Street. A car had rearended a semi and the vehicle was trapped underneath the trailer. The 25-year-old male driver of the car was able to free himself and he was transported by ambulance to Brandon Regional Health Centre suffering what appeared to be only minor injuries.
BPS members remained on scene until approximately 5:20 a.m. to assist in clearing the wreckage off the roadway. Tow trucks will tend to the scene in daylight to retrieve the semi-trailer from the side of the road.
