Police News Release - May 5th, 2026

Arrest Warrants

In the past 24 hours three individuals were arrested on the strength of their Brandon Police Service (BPS) Warrants for Arrest. One was held for court in the morning while the two others were released via Appearance Notice with future court dates.

 

Criminal Harassment x2 / Breach of Peace Bond

Between August 2025 and May 2026, a 49-year-old female repeatedly harassed her former partner and was found to be in breach of the conditions of her Peace Bond.

On May 4th, 2026, the female was located, arrested, and held in custody for a court appearance the following morning. The female was also issued a cease-and-desist letter by the BPS, directing her to stop contacting police for non-emergency matters, as she has frequently and routinely tied up police resources with non-urgent issues.

 

Theft Under $5000 / Breach of Undertaking x2

On May 4th at approximately 3:32 p.m., police received a call from a business located in the 1500 block of 18th Street (Shoppers Mall) reporting that a male had just stolen a hockey stick valued at approximately $300. Surveillance footage was available, and the license plate of the suspect vehicle was obtained. Police located the male in the vehicle shortly thereafter; however, the stolen hockey stick was not in his possession. The male stated that he had discarded the item near a dumpster. The male was also the subject of a separate investigation, as he had been communicating with his ex-partner and had also attended her residence - both actions being in violation of the conditions of his Undertaking. He was arrested and held in custody at BPS for a court appearance the following morning on May 5th, 2026.

 

Structure Fire

On May 4th, 2026, at 11:12 p.m., police responded to a 911 call and assisted Brandon Fire & Emergency Services (BFES) by attending to a fire in the 300 block of Victoria Avenue. The fire is believed to have originated in a greenhouse and spread to an adjacent deck before being contained and extinguished by BFES. No injuries were reported, and the fire is not considered suspicious.

 

Protective Detention & Care of Intoxicated Persons Act (PDCIPA)

On May 4th at 11:00 p.m. police responded to a report of an intoxicated male stumbling around someone’s yard in the 800 block of 11th Street. Police attended and arrested a highly intoxicated 38-year-old male. He was brought to BPS detention cells and will be released once sober. 

 

Breach of Probation x2

On May 5th at 12:35 a.m. police came across a known to police 17-year-old female in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue. The female was breaching her curfew and a do not attend probation clause. She was arrested, brought to BPS, and will attend court in the morning on May 5th, 2026.

 

Missing Child

On the evening of May 4th, 2026, at 6:19 p.m., police received a report from a mother that her seven-year-old non-verbal autistic daughter was missing. The child had been playing in the yard with her siblings but did not return inside with them.

BPS immediately responded, deploying on-duty platoon members, cadets, as well as RPAS (drone) and K9 units. Family, friends, and members of the community also assisted in the search efforts.

The child was safely located approximately one hour later. The child had wandered approximately eight blocks to a store, where she was found looking at children’s books. BPS would like to sincerely thank the community for their immediate concern and assistance in sharing information and helping with the search.
