Police News Release - March 6th, 2026

Arrest Warrants

In the last 24 hours four individuals were arrested on the strength of their Warrants for Arrest. Three were held for court while one was released via Appearance Notice with a future court date.

 

Motor Vehicle Accident / Immediate Roadside Prohibition

On March 5th at 7:33 p.m., a two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1900 block of Princess Avenue. Vehicle #1 struck Vehicle #2, which was legally parked and unoccupied. The operator of Vehicle #1 initially left the scene but later returned and was identified. The driver was administered an ASD, resulting in two “fail” readings. The vehicle operated by Driver #1 was towed and will be seized for 30 days. The driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.

 

Sexual Assault / Assault with a Weapon / Forcible Confinement

On March 3rd, a statement was obtained from a female who reported that she had been held against her will, assaulted, and sexually assaulted between March 1 and March 2. The female received medical care.

On March 5th a 32-year-old male was arrested and held in BPS detention cells. He was scheduled to attend court on March 6th, 2026.

 

Breach of the Peace

In the past 24 hours two highly intoxicated individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace. They were held in BPS detention cells to be released once sober.

 

Flight from Police / Resist Arrest / Highway Traffic Act Offences

Shortly after midnight on March 6th, police observed a vehicle go through a stop sign in the 600 block of Van Horne Avenue. Emergency lights were activated, and officers followed the vehicle for a short period before the vehicle attempted to take a turn and struck a fence, causing damage. The vehicle then came to a stop in the 1300 block of 8th Street.

Three occupants of the vehicle immediately surrendered to police, while a fourth fled the scene on foot. Officers established a perimeter, and the individual was successfully located with the assistance of a K9 track a short time later in the area of 3rd Street and Victoria Avenue.

The vehicle involved was found to be unregistered and was towed from the scene. The 39-year-old male who had fled from police was identified as the driver and was held in custody to appear in court. The remaining occupants were released without charge.

 

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

On March 5th at 3:33 p.m. Portage la Prairie RCMP advised they had recovered the vehicle that had been reported in yesterday's media release as stolen.
