Vehicle vs. Pedestrians

On July 9th at 7:21 p.m., BPS responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two pedestrians at the intersection of 6th Street and Richmond Avenue.

The preliminary investigation determined that an SUV was travelling westbound on Richmond Avenue and struck two pedestrians who were crossing southbound on 6th Street. One pedestrian was struck by the front of the vehicle, while the second was hit by the side of the vehicle. Both pedestrians, 10-year-old females, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Winnipeg via ambulance for further medical treatment at the Children’s Hospital.

Several bystanders and construction workers witnessed the incident. Surveillance video from the area was obtained, and officers documented the scene through photographs and drone imagery. The vehicle involved was towed and seized by BPS pending a Traffic Analyst's assessment. Mandatory alcohol screening for the operator of the vehicle was conducted, and the 72-year-old male blew zero. The male was later released without charges at this time. The incident, however, remains under investigation.

Upon arrival, officers observed obvious signs that the 21-year-old female had been assaulted. Due to her level of intoxication and behaviour at the scene, she was arrested for Breach of the Peace and held in BPS detention cells until sober. The 24-year-old male was arrested and charged with one count of Assault. He was brought to BPS detention cells to appear in court on the morning of July 10th, 2026.

The other occupants of the residence requested that the male be removed from the property. Upon police arrival, the male had already left the scene. Later that day, police located and arrested him. He was charged and subsequently released on an Undertaking. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 17th, 2026.
