Police News Release - August 15th, 2025

Uttering Threats

On August 14th at 11:27AM an employee from a business in the 700 block of Victoria Avenue reported that she was threatened, and the suspect was waiting outside the business. Police attended and located the 30-year-old female outside the front door. The suspect was arrested and held in detention cells to attend court.

 

Arrest Warrant

On August 14th at 2:32PM Police located a 33-year-old female in the 900 block of Lorne Avenue who was confirmed to have an Unendorsed Warrant for Arrest (Failure to Attend Court). She was arrested and held in detention cells to attend court.

 

Charges Laid for June Incident

An incident that occurred on June 25th, 2025, now has two individuals officially charged.

On June 25th at approximately 8:02 AM, the sound of two gunshots was reported in the Westaway Bay area. Shortly after, at around 8:20 AM, a report was received from Alaska Bay regarding a shooting victim. The victim, a 33-year-old male, was found to have a gunshot wound to the left hip area. The victim was taken to hospital where he received care for the non-life-threatening injury.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals have been charged.

22-year-old Jacob Macwilliam has been charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Jacob Macwilliam currently has an active Warrant for his Arrest. Should the public have any information on his whereabouts please call the Brandon Police Service non-emergency line at 204-729-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 204-727-TIPS.

20-year-old Jamal Huntinghawk has been charged with:
• Discharging a Firearm While Being Reckless
• Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Knowing Possession Was Unauthorized
• Weapons Possession Contrary to Order and Failing to Surrender Authorization (x3)

At the time of the incident, Jamal Huntinghawk was out on bail and was subject to multiple firearm prohibition orders. Huntinghawk is currently remanded to the Brandon Correctional Centre.

 

Residential Search Warrant Executed

On August 13, 2025, at 9:52PM, BPS Organized Crime Section with assistance from Major Crimes Section, executed a Search Warrant at a residence on Queen’s Crescent.

A 30-year-old male and a 31-year-old female were located inside. A search incident to the male’s arrest resulted in the seizure of a single .270 rifle ammunition on his person.

A search of the residence led to the discovery of approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine, additional .22 caliber ammunition, a hatchet, and a BB gun.

The 30-year-old male was bound by a Release Order prohibiting possession of weapons, ammunition, and controlled substances. He was held for court. The 31-year-old female was released without charges.

 

Breach of Undertaking

On August 14th officers attended a residence in Kingston place looking for a 34-year-old male. The male was at the residence and was arrested. He required to be re-served an Undertaking from August 10th and also was arrestable for new Breach of Undertaking offences from August 11th & 12th. He was held in detention cells at BPS and will attend court in the morning on August 15th, 2025.

 

Arrest Warrant

On August 14 at 9:26 PM, a report was received regarding an intoxicated female in the back lane of the 100 block of Brandon Avenue. The individual was allegedly following a youth while swearing and clapping, and the youth appeared to be attempting to distance themselves.

Officers attended and located the woman in the 200 block of Southern Avenue. A records check revealed an endorsed BPS Warrant for Arrest (Assault Peace Officer, Mischief to Property, and Failure to Attend Court). She was arrested and held at BPS due to her level of intoxication.

She will be released on an Appearance Notice once sober, with a court date set for September 11, 2025.

The youth was safely turned over to a family member.

 

Immediate Roadside Prohibition

On August 14 at 10:19 PM, a witness reported a male driving erratically on Middleton Avenue and suspected the driver was impaired. The male parked, left the vehicle running, and entered a nearby restaurant, where he was observed by officers yelling at staff over a food order.

He then exited the business and returned to the driver’s seat of his vehicle with keys in hand. The 35-year-old male refused to provide a sample for the Approved Screening Device (ASD) and was subsequently issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a 60-day vehicle impoundment, along with paperwork for refusal.

 

Breach of the Peace

On August 15th at 12:32AM police received a report of a male in the lobby of a building in the 1300 block of Princess Avenue who was screaming and smashing things. Officers attended and located the highly intoxicated 32-year-old male. He was arrested and held in BPS detention cells to be released once sober.
