Police Media Release - January 22, 2025

Theft Under $5000

On January 21st a 41-year-old woman attended Brandon Police Service (BPS) who had falsely deposited two cheques on July 8th, 2024, for $500 each and kept the funds. She was arrested, interviewed, and released on an Appearance Notice with a court date of March 20th, 2025.

 

Theft Under $5000

On January 21st at 9:08AM a security guard was flagged down by an employee of a store in the 900 block of 18th Street North stating a male had stolen a bunch of items and left headed on 18th Street towards Braecrest. Police located the 37-year-old male. He was arrested, charged with Theft Under $5000 and released on an Undertaking with a court date of March 31st, 2025.  The items (worth $65.93) were returned to the store.

 

Sexual Assault / Assault

On January 21st a 53-year-old male was arrested and charged for Sexual Assault as well as Assault. He is accused of ongoing Assault for the past year as well as an incident of Sexual Assault with a 46-year-old woman this past December 2024. He was arrested, charged, and released on an Undertaking with a court date of February 20th, 2025.

 

Breach of Peace

On January 22nd at 3:13AM police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 2200 block of 9th Street where a male was said to be intoxicated and smashing items. Upon police arrival it was clear the intoxicated 41-year-old male was causing issues. He was arrested, medically cleared and held in detention cells at BPS to prevent further issues. He will be released once sober.

 

Resist Arrest / Possess Weapon / Possess Prohibited Weapon / Unauthorized Possession of Firearm / Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in a Motor Vehicle / Failure to Comply Release Order / Failure to Comply Recognizance Order / Possess Break-in Instruments

At approximately 12:19AM on January 22nd police conducted a traffic stop with a taxi. Upon the taxi stopping, both rear doors of the cab opened, and two male subjects exited. One male took off on foot and was apprehended in a nearby hotel. When brought back outside the secondary party was gone. While being pursued, a straight-blade knife fell from the 44-year-old male’s pants. Upon search to arrest a homemade, operational stun gun was located in the male’s jacket pocket. Upon search of the taxi, within arms distance from where the two had been sitting, was a backpack with a long firearm barrel sticking out of it. Further inspection of the barrel revealed it was a .22 caliber rifle, without the stock. The backpack also contained a yellow crowbar and gloves. The 41-year-old male is bound by multiple orders resulting in various breaches. The second male who fled could not be located in the area and police continue to search for him.

The 41-year-old male was arrested and held in detention cells at BPS. He will attend court in the morning on January 22nd, 2025.
