Police Media Release - August 9, 2024

Theft/Failure to Comply

On July 23, 2024, a business in the 900 block of Victoria Ave reported a male stole approximately $100 in meat products. The male was also to abide by a condition not to attend the business.

Yesterday, on August 8th at 9:25AM, police located the 40-year-old male. He was arrested and later released on an Appearance Notice. Court date is set for October 1st, 2024, with charges of Failure to Comply with Undertaking and Theft Under $5000.

 

Warrant Executed

On August 8th at 11:18AM police located and arrested a 37-year-old male on an outstanding warrant at his residence in the 2700 block of Rosser Avenue. He was later released on an Appearance Notice. Court date is set for October 1st, 2024, with charges of Possessing a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Resisting Peace Officer and Failure to Attend Court.

 

Structure Fire

On August 8th at 2:51PM 911 reported a residential shed fully engulfed in flames in the 700 block of 23rd Street. Witnesses reported seeing two male youth in the area, possibly involved. Security footage in the area showed two Caucasian youth, one with long dark hair, black t-shirt, jeans, green backpack and dark red shoes, and the second with short black hair, grey t-shirt, black pants and dark shoes.  The fire caused minimal damage to a neighboring fence and was contained to the shed. No humans or pets sustained injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Theft Under $5000

On July 22nd a business in the 100 block of Victoria Avenue East observed a male leave the store having scanned only certain items, and not paying for others. Security footage was shared with police.

On August 8th at 1:00PM police located and arrested the 39-year-old male. He was released on an Undertaking. A court date of October 7th, 2024, was set on charges of Theft Under $5000.

 

Warrant Executed 

On August 8th at 4:19PM officers located a 22-year-old male in a park in the 200 block of 9th Street whom they identified with having outstanding warrants. The male was arrested and lodged for court in the morning on August 9th, 2024. His charges are Possessing a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Resisting Peace Officer and Failure to Attend Court.

 

Motor Vehicle Collision

On August 8th at 4:37PM 911 advised of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at Richmond Avenue East and Highway 110 between a semi hauling gravel and a pickup. The two passengers of the pickup truck required extraction and were transported to Brandon Hospital by EMS. The 40-year-old male driver of the semi declined medical attention. The injuries of the pickup truck passengers (17-year-old female driver and 15-year-old female passenger) were not believed to be life threatening.

 

Vehicle Stop Turned Drug Bust

On August 8th at 8:10PM police conducted a traffic stop at 1st Street north and the Trans-Canada Highway. The vehicle windows were tinted heavily, contrary to provisions of the Vehicle Equipment, Safety and Inspection Regulation under the Highway Traffic Act.

While speaking with the 24-year-old male it was learned that he was in possession of cannabis in the middle console of the vehicle. He was arrested under the Provincial Offences Act for Unlawful Transportation of Cannabis in or on a vehicle. While seizing the cannabis a further search found 3 cell phones, a large bundle of $50 dollar bills bound by an elastic totaling $2800. Within the vehicle hatch area where the spare tire is located, three 1-kilogram bricks of cocaine were found. (Potential street value if sold at the gram level of $240,000).

The vehicle was towed, and a further search found prepackaged baggies of cocaine, a loaded Glock handgun, and an extended loaded magazine.

The 24-year-old male was arrested and lodged for court in the morning on August 9th, 2024.  Charges include Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammo, Possession of Prohibited Weapon of Ammo X2, Transport Firearm Contrary to Regulation, Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Crack Cocaine, Trafficking Cocaine, Trafficking Crack Cocaine, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Proceeds.

 

Failure to Comply with Undertaking – Curfew

On the evening of August 8th police received a report of a suspicious male passed out on a doorstep in the 300 block of 19th Street North. The male was sober and “having a nap”. He was under curfew conditions of which he was breaching. Released on Undertaking with court date of October 17th, 2024, for Failure to Comply with Undertaking – Curfew.

On August 8th at 8PM police pulled over a vehicle in the 900 block of Pacific Avenue which resulted in a seatbelt ticket as well as a Failure to Comply with an Undertaking as he was breaching previous conditions not to attend the area. The 75-year-old male was released on Undertaking with court date set for October 17th, 2024.

 

Stolen Bike Found with Charges

On August 8th police located a stolen bike and arrested the 48-year-old male in possession. He was lodged for court in the morning on August 9th on charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Trespass by Night.

 

Vehicle Theft – Black and Red Chevy, approximately 20 years old

On August 8th police received a call from a resident in Meadowlark Trailer Court that they believe their neighbor’s vehicle may have just been stolen. Upon speaking with family of owner it was confirmed no one should have the vehicle. It is a black and red chevy truck and the suspect was reported as heavy set, 6 feet tall, bushy hair and beard, black pants, dark color hoodie.

Police continue to investigate and anyone with information is asked to please contact BPS.

 

Breach of Peace

On August 8th police were called to a hotel in the 1100 block of 18th Street for reports of a fight between a 14-year-old female and a 37-year-old female. Fight had been broken up, but they were unable to stay in the same room. Police lodged the intoxicated mother who was deemed to be the cause of the problem. CFS notified and 37-year-old female will be released in the morning upon being sober.
