Media Statement from BPS – July 10th, 2026

The Brandon Police Service's thoughts are with the young victims, their families, and everyone affected by the two recent motor vehicle collisions involving three young girls in our community. We recognize that these incidents have caused significant physical and emotional trauma. We wish the 16-year-old female involved in the July 7 collision, as well as the two 10-year-old girls injured in July 9th’s incident, strength and healing as they recover. Our hearts are with their families during what will undoubtedly be a long and difficult journey.

These are significant investigations involving serious injuries. Investigations of this nature are thorough and involve many steps, including scene analysis, interviews with witnesses, review of available video evidence, forensic examination of the involved vehicles, and collision reconstruction by trained Traffic Analysts. These investigations are not completed in a matter of days and often take weeks or months to ensure all available evidence is collected and carefully assessed.

We understand that families and members of the public want answers as quickly as possible, and we appreciate their patience while investigators complete this work. It is essential that the investigation be allowed to proceed without speculation so that the facts alone determine the outcome.

We are aware of rumours and speculation circulating on social media suggesting that the Brandon Police Service is attempting to protect the driver involved in the July 7th collision because of an alleged connection to the police service. These claims are false. The driver is not employed by the Brandon Police Service. The driver involved in this motor vehicle incident remained at the scene and their identity is not in question. There is no shielding of anyone from accountability. Our investigators are committed to conducting a fair, impartial, and evidence-based investigation.

The Brandon Police Service remains committed to transparency while also respecting the integrity of ongoing investigations and the privacy of those involved. Additional information will be released once available.

If you witness dangerous or suspicious driving, please report it to the Brandon Police Service at 204-729-2345. If you believe a driver is impaired, call 911 immediately, as this is a crime and an emergency requiring immediate police response.

The Brandon Police Service thanks our community for its patience and support.
