Loyal Partner, Family Forever
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of K9 Storm, loyal partner to Constable Shawn Haggarty, and a treasured member of the Brandon Police Service family.
Storm passed peacefully in his sleep last Friday, leaving a void not only in our unit but also in the hearts of those who knew and loved him—especially Shawn and his family. Storm was more than a working dog; he was family.
Born on December 24, 2015, and joining our Police Service Dog Unit on December 13, 2017, Storm served with unwavering dedication for over seven and a half years. During that time, Storm was directly involved in the seizure of large amounts of illicit drugs and contraband from our community and destined to other communities across Canada, with a Street Value of over $25 million. Storm played a key role in numerous high-risk operations, tracking many individuals involved in serious crimes within our community. He also proudly supported many Tactical Response Unit deployments.
But Storm’s legacy goes far beyond his operational success. To Shawn, his family, and all of us at BPS, he was the perfect partner—loyal, courageous, intelligent, and gentle. Storm was as exceptional at home as he was in the field, bonding deeply with Shawn’s family and becoming a cherished companion. He was never far from his beloved ball and would do just about anything to chase it—even if it meant nipping Shawn by mistake in his excitement.
One of Storm’s proudest moments was having the opportunity to work alongside his own offspring, Zeus and Blink, who continue his legacy of service here at BPS. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Peaceful Valley Pet Crematorium, who graciously donated their services to care for Storm after his passing. Your compassion during this difficult time has meant so much.
On behalf of the entire Brandon Police Service, we honour the remarkable career of K9 Storm and express our deepest gratitude to Constable Haggarty for their tireless service together. Storm, thank you for protecting our community and for the joy and loyalty you brought into our lives.
You will be forever missed, never forgotten. Rest easy, Storm.
Thank you for your service.
