June 12, 2025 - Change in HRV Sticker Requirement Prior to Occupancy

Effective immediately, the City of Brandon will no longer require self-balancing Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) units to have a certification sticker applied prior to occupancy.
This change reflects updates to our internal inspection and verification processes, which now recognize the built-in self-balancing capabilities of these units as sufficient for compliance. Contractors are still expected to ensure that all HRV systems are installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications and meet applicable building code requirements.

Please note:

  • This change applies only to self-balancing HRV units.
  • All other HRV systems must continue to meet existing verification and labeling requirements.
  • Final inspections will continue to include a review of HRV installation and functionality.

If you have any questions or require clarification, please contact the City of Brandon Planning & Buildings Department at m.fischer@brandon.ca or by calling 204-729-2151.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.
