Flood Update - July 8, 2026

The City of Brandon continues to monitor river levels and carry out flood mitigation efforts across the community.

Current forecasts indicate the Assiniboine River is expected to gradually rise over the coming days, with the peak now anticipated on July 13. At this time, the forecasted levels are expected to be similar to those experienced during the 2017 flood event.

Residents can monitor current river levels through the City’s daily river level tracker opengov.brandon.ca/catalog.php?dataset=riverlevel.

Flood Protection Work Continues at:

  • Canada Packers Sports Field
  • Wheat City Golf Course
  • Tiger dam deployment near Kasiurak Bay

Crews continue to make good progress, and work is expected to continue into the weekend.

Traffic and Pathway Impacts

  • 1st Street remains reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction while flood protection measures are installed.
  • The 1st Street multi-use path is now closed.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow all traffic control measures, and use caution around work zones.

Flood Preparedness Notices

Residents located within identified flood-risk areas will begin receiving preparedness notices tomorrow.

It is important to note that this is not an evacuation order. The notice is being provided to give residents advance information and time to prepare should conditions change. The City is taking a proactive approach to ensure residents have as much notice as possible.

The City will continue providing updates as new information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to follow the City’s official communication channels for the latest flood information.
