Extreme Cold Warning for Brandon - Stay Warm & Stay Safe!

Environment Canada is calling for several days of very cold wind chills between –40 and –45 this weekend. Extreme cold can be dangerous for everyone in Brandon. Please take steps to stay safe and warm.

How to Protect Yourself and Your Family

Dress for the Weather:

• Wear warm layers you can adjust as needed.
• Choose a wind‑resistant outer layer.
• Cover exposed skin as frostbite can occur within minutes in these temperatures.

If You’re Travelling

• Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, jumper cables, and other essentials.
• Check weather forecasts before heading out and stay alert for watches and warnings.

If You Work Outdoors

• Take regular warm‑up breaks
• Ensure you have proper winter clothing, and avoid working alone in extreme cold.

Be Prepared at Home

• Have winter safety supplies on hand, including flashlights, food, water, and medications.
• Make a plan for possible power outages.
• Keep your home heated to at least 12°C (55°F) to prevent frozen pipes.
• Check and maintain your heating system

Make sure to check in on older adults, vulnerable neighbours, or relatives to make sure they have enough heat, food, and winter supplies.
