Council Meeting Highlights - April 20, 2026

Council approved the Brandon Transit Master Plan, a comprehensive plan to guide enhancements to Brandon’s transit services over the next five years. The next round of changes includes increased evening frequency; Sunday service until 10 p.m, and restructuring some routes. Additional details will be provided over the coming weeks.
Honourary Street Name – James Ehnes Way
Council approved the designation of James Ehnes Way as an honourary street name for the 200/300 block of 20th Street, near Brandon University. James is a world-renowned violinist and violist from Brandon and will be making a stop in his hometown on May 7th as part of his 50th Canada Birthday Tour.
Council approved a report to consider proposed changes to Brandon's default speed limit. Moving forward, the City will provide a formal request to the Province to discuss next steps including setting local speed limits and signage requirements. Speed limits remain unchanged for now. Stay tuned for future public engagement on potential changes.
Council Strategic Plan Q4 2025 Report
Council received a 2025 Quarter 4 update on the Council Strategic Plan, outlining progress achieved in six priority focus areas as well as priorities moving forward.
Citizen Appointments to Council Committee’s
- Council approved four 2026 citizen appointments to the Brandon Downtown Development Corporation:
- Ron Shaluk
- Stephen Branigan
- James Chambers
- Laryssa Stevneson
- Council appointed Con Arvisais to the Brandon Police Board for the remaining Council term.
By-Laws
- Council approved By-law No. 7443, rezoning property located at 1428 Louise Ave. from PR Parks and Recreation to EI Educational and Institutional to allow for the redevelopment of Park Community Centre with a daycare facility.
- Council approved By-law No. 7449, the 2026 Tax Levy By-Law, which sets the property tax rates for the year.
- Council approved By-law No. 7453, amending a rezoning by-law for property located at 639 Van Horne Ave from IR Industrial Restricted to RMD Residential Moderate Density for development.
- Council gave first reading to By-law No. 7454, to amend the Cemetery By-Law with general housekeeping amendments related to decorative items, memorial placements, and cemetery maintenance practices.
