City Council Meeting Highlights - March 17, 2025
Brandon, MB - Brandon City Council held its regular meeting on Mar. 17, 2025. The meeting began with a warm welcome to the new City Manager, Dave Wardrop. Council also gave a special thank you to Terry Parlow, Chief of Emergency Services, for serving as the acting city manager for the past seven months.
- Council received a presentation on the 2025 Two Spirit and Transgender Day of Visibility.
- Reports from the Keystone Centre and Committee of the Whole were presented. Council endorsed a new four-year agreement with CUPE Local 69 Union. This agreement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment for all city employees.
- Exciting events were announced, including the last Wheat Kings game of the regular season is being held this Fri, Mar. 22; Brandon University is hosting the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship Mar. 21 - 23, and the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair will kick off on Mon, Mar. 31, 2025.
- Two citizen appointments to the Planning Commission were confirmed.
- A Weed Inspector was appointed for the 2025 season as part of the Integrated Pest Management Plan to help control noxious (harmful or poisonous) weeds.
- Several subdivision applications were approved for properties at 353 - 16th St. N., 501 Braecrest Dr., and 1910 Bell Ave. All applications aim to enhance ongoing and future development.
- Council approved By-Law No. 7409 to rezone part of 1910 Bell Ave to enable residential development totaling 80 dwelling units.
- Two By-Laws were read for the first time:
- By-Law No. 7420: to open a portion of a public road located at the intersection of Maryland Ave & 26th St.
- By-Law No. 7421: to name the lane in Block 2 Plan 848, connecting Bluebird street and White Swan street, north of Braecrest Drive as "Lee Lane".
