City Council Meeting Highlights - April 7, 2025
Brandon City Council held its regular meeting on April 7, 2025.
In addition to updates from committee reports and enquiries, the following key discussions and decisions included:
- City Council held public hearings on the 2025 Financial Plan and on the Use of Special Purpose Reserves. Following the hearings, Council approved the 2025 Financial Plan. Additionally, Council adopted the unaudited 2024 Financial Plan.
- Three citizens were appointed to the Brandon Downtown Development Corporation for a three-year term from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028.
- Council received a presentation on an initiative to include five city-owned lands along the Assiniboine Corridor in Manitoba's Protected Areas Network. A proposal will be submitted to the Province of Manitoba for floodplain designation as part of the network.
- By-Law No. 7423 to Impose and Levy Property Taxes for the Fiscal Year 2025 was given first reading.
- By-Law No. 7397 was approved to establish Development Charges for the Transportation and Land Drainage Network.
- By-Law No. 7124, which aims to amend the Zoning By-Law to allow greater flexibility in the Residential Low-Density Zone, was given second reading. The third reading will be scheduled for a later date.
- By-Law No. 7420, which opens a portion of public road at the intersection of Maryland Ave. and 26th St. to accommodate increased traffic volumes, was adopted.
- By-Law No. 7421, which names the lane connecting Bluebird Street and White Swan Street, north of Braecrest Drive as "Lee Lane," was adopted.
- By-Law No. 7424, which opens a corner cut-off of public road across the NE corner of 1230 18th St. N. as Public Right-of-Way, was read for the first time.
