City Council Meeting Highlights - April 22, 2025

Brandon City Council held its regular meeting on April 22, 2025. In addition to community comments and feedback, along with updates from Council Committee reports, the following key discussions and decisions included:

  • City Council held two public hearings:
    • Council approved a conditional use application for a property at 332 & 338 - 10th St.
    • Council approved the request to close and convey the portion of 5th St. right-of-way north of College Ave for a new residential development.
  • A funding request was approved for a skid steer unit to assist Parks crews with grass mowing and clean-up of greenspaces. Parks crews mow 833 acres of grass throughout the city on a weekly cycle.
  • City Council received a report from Solid Waste Services highlighting challenges in growth, collection trucks, staffing levels, and maintaining service levels. Council approved changing weekly collection to bi-weekly pickup for recycling and organics materials, with refuse collection continuing weekly. Organics collection will begin May 6.
  • City Council received a report on the 26th Street Reconstruction. A tender will be issued in the near future to update the upgrade 26th Street from Park Ave to Victoria Ave. The City will also be looking to undertake a detailed active transportation network study.
  • City Council approved a request for the City to apply for funding from the Manitoba Water Service Board for financial assistance with respect to the 1st St. Watermain Renewal Project from Richmond Ave to Brandon Ave.


By-Laws:

  • Council approved By-Law No. 7414 to Rezone Property Located at 526 26th St. to allow for a development of a 28-unit residential building.
  • Council approved By-Law No. 7419 to Close and Convey Portion of 5th St. and Public Lane north of College Ave for a new residential development.
  • Council approved By-Law No. 7423 to impose and levy property taxes for the fiscal year 2025. Property tax bills will be mailed to property owners in May. Property taxes are due June 30.
  • Council approved By-Law No. 7424 to open and purchase the corner at 1230 - 18th St. N for the future construction of a roundabout at 18th St. N. and Braecrest Dr.
  • Council gave first reading of By-Law 7425 to rezone property at 305 and 307 - 14th St.
  • Council gave first reading of By-Law No. 7426 to amend water and wastewater rates.
