City Announces Review of Municipal Heritage Incentive Program

The City of Brandon is announcing a comprehensive review of the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program (MHIP). Established in 2017, the MHIP aims to promote the conservation of Municipal Heritage Sites by providing financial incentives in the form of municipal property tax exemptions.

The program has been instrumental in preserving Brandon's rich heritage. This review seeks to ensure its continued effectiveness. Key areas of focus will include the application process, eligibility criteria, and the financial incentives provided.

“This initiative underscores the City's commitment to preserving its historical landmarks and promoting heritage conservation for future generations,” said Andrew Mok, Senior Planner for the City of Brandon. “This review will help us assess the program's impact and make necessary adjustments to better serve our community.”

The review process will not affect the ability of current or prospective applicants to apply for the program. The existing parameters will remain in place, and any changes will be communicated promptly to those affected.

The City of Brandon Planning & Buildings Department will lead the review and work with the Brandon Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee, with proposals for amendments expected to be presented to City Council by the end of 2025.
