Canadian Armed Forces Conducting Training Exercises This Week

Brandon, MB – Brandon residents can expect to see increased military activity in and around the city this week, as part of scheduled training operations conducted by the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army.

A CH-146 Griffon helicopter will be conducting flying operations within city limits throughout the week. The aircraft will operate at altitudes no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route. While the helicopters will be configured with weapons, no ammunition will be carried or used. All flight operations are meticulously planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety and are subject to weather and flying conditions.

In addition, CFB Shilo will conduct training exercises at various city parks Nov. 6 - 7, 2025. Training is expected to start Thu, Nov. 6 at 8 a.m. and continue until Fri, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. Locations include:

  • Rideau Park
  • Dinsdale Park
  • Sir Winston Churchill Park
  • Fields outside of Brandon’s Community Sportsplex

In addition, an open house event will be held at the Riverbank Discovery Centre on Thu, Nov. 6, from 3:30 – 5 p.m. Residents are invited to meet soldiers, view M777 artillery guns stationed in the field north of the Centre, and learn more about the military units based in the Brandon area and to support the important training efforts of our Canadian Armed Forces.

Outside of the open house hours, residents are asked to minimize engagement with military personnel as they practice rapid deployment and re-deployment in an urban environment.

Military vehicles and helicopters will be visible as troops move between the Riverbank Discovery Centre and CFB Shilo. No live ammunition will be used during the exercise.
