Brandon's Community Sportsplex Ice Arena Is Set to Reopen Next Week
Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon is excited to announce the reopening of Brandon’s Community Sportsplex ice arena on Wed, Oct. 1, 2025, marking a major milestone for our community.
The arena was closed in March 2023 due to safety concerns with an aging ammonia ice plant. Since then, City staff have worked diligently to assess the facility, engage the public, and confirm a path forward. Following extensive consultation and a significant investment in repairs, the ice arena is ready to welcome skaters back to the ice.
“We’re excited to reopen the ice arena at the Sportsplex,” said Mayor Jeff Fawcett. “The community asked for ice to return, and we delivered. This isn’t just about a facility; it’s about supporting the sports and activities that matter to Brandon. The Sportsplex is a key part of staying active and connected, and we’re glad to have it back.”
“From learn-to-skate programs to figure skating and high-performance hockey programs, the ice arena at the Sportsplex will continue to be a cornerstone in our community,” said Perry Roque, Director of Parks and Recreation Services. “Having the ice arena ready to reopen means more opportunities for youth programming, team sports, and healthy living.”
The ice arena will start public programming on Wed, Oct. 1. Arena rentals will be available starting Oct. 6. A grand re-opening is scheduled for Sat, Oct. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will include an official re-opening ceremony, FREE public skating, as well as disco skating with a DJ.
Details on ice time schedules and programming are available at brandon.ca and on the City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services social media channels.
