Brandon Municipal Cemetery — Spring Clean-Up Begins April 15, 2026
The annual spring clean‑up at the Brandon Municipal Cemetery will start on April 15, 2026. Maintaining a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all visitors remains a priority, and City crews carry out two major clean‑ups each year.
What Families Need to Do
- Please remove any personal or decorative items from monuments, markers, or bases before April 15.
- Items left behind will be collected and placed in a storage container outside the Cemetery office. Items will be available for families to pick up until the next scheduled clean-up (April 15 and October 15 annually), provided there is sufficient storage space available.
- Artificial flowers: stored for 1–2 months, depending on space.
- Items that meet guidelines below may be placed back at grave sites beginning May 1.
Cemetery By‑Law Review
The City is currently reviewing the Cemetery By‑Law and expects to bring proposed updates to City Council this spring. Until the review is complete, decorative items must follow these guidelines:
- Items may be placed only on monuments or bases.
- Items must not interfere with maintenance or create safety concerns.
- No glass is permitted.
- Nothing may be placed outside the monument or base area.
- Staff may remove items that do not meet guidelines and will notify interment‑rights holders whenever possible.
Additional Reminder
- Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on cemetery grounds at any time.
The City recognizes how important it is for families to honour their loved ones and remains committed to keeping the cemetery clean, safe, and respectful for everyone.
