SHAWNA MOZDZEN

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR SCHOOL TRUSTEE?
I am running for school trustee because I believe that when students thrive, families and communities thrive with them. As an Anishinaabe Ikwe raised in a strong Métis community, my cultural teachings have guided me in every role I’ve held, whether in schools, health care, or community services.
When my own children were young, I ran a home daycare. Then I gained employment with the Brandon School Division as an Educational Assistant which led to my roles in Building Student Success with Indigenous Parents (BSSIP) and Indigenous Academic Achievement (IAA). When I left BSD, I returned to my home community of Kinosota and worked in my First Nations community of Ebb and Flow as a CFS worker. I now work for Prairie Mountain Health as a Community Liaison with Indigenous Health. In all these positions, I have seen the need of the wider community. I am passionate about my commitment to supporting not only students, but also their families.
I know the challenges young people face and the power of collaboration, equity, and open dialogue to create solutions. As trustee, I will listen, lead with integrity, and work to ensure every student can succeed.
