City Council Meeting Highlights - Aug. 18, 2025

Brandon City Council held their regular meeting on Mon, Aug. 18, 2025. In addition to committee reports and enquiries, the following key discussions and decisions were made:

Presentations & Delegations:

  • Zoe McQuinn, Director General of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, presented their strategic master plan.
  • Trina Semenchuk, owner of The Little Green House That Could, showcased her company’s turnkey design solutions and training for vertical farms and greenhouses.

Public Hearings

  • A hearing was held for By-Law No. 7438, proposing an amendment to By-Law 7338 to increase the borrowing limit for the SW Brandon Wastewater Servicing Project from $30 to $40 million to address rising construction costs.

General Business:

  • Watt Consulting Group presented the Draft Brandon Transit Master Plan for Council’s consideration. A final master plan will be presented this fall.
  • Council approved the request to amend the Brookwood South Neighbourhood Plan, subject to amendments.
  • Council approved the application to subdivide 1660 and part of 1900 - 34th St. for future development.
  • Council directed staff to investigate potential options for a new outdoor aquatic facility for 2026 budget deliberations.

By-Laws

  • Council approved By-Law No. 7431 to subdivide 1660 and part of 1900 – 34th Street for future development.
  • Council gave first reading to By-Law No. 7438 to amend By-Law No. 7338 to raise the borrowing limit for the SW Brandon Wastewater Servicing Project.
