Temporary Dike Closure at Grand Valley Road for Flood Protection Work

Brandon, MB - The City of Brandon is advising residents that a temporary dike closure on the west side of the Grand Valley Road (PR 459) and 18th Street (PTH 10) intersection is required based on current Provincial flood forecasts. Work will begin the morning of Thursday, July 2nd as part of ongoing and progressive flood mitigation efforts. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution and patience around the work zone and obey all posted signage.

The work will be carried out by Alternative Landscaping Ltd. and is expected to be completed between Thursday, July 2nd and Friday July 3rd. Residents are asked to be patient as crews work to safely and efficiently complete the project.

During the temporary dike closure, traffic will be detoured using 18th Street North, PTH #1 and 34th Street North (info available at www.roadclosures.brandon.ca). The city encourages drivers to plan accordingly and allow for additional travel time.

The city is also reminding residents to stay off the dike system and away from closed trails, parks, and riverbank areas. High water levels, fast-moving currents, erosion, and unstable ground conditions can create significant safety hazards. Barricades, closures, temporary pumps have been put in place to protect the public and to allow City staff to safely monitor and maintain flood protection infrastructure. Residents are asked to respect all signage, barricades, and direction from emergency personnel and City staff.

The city will continue to provide updates as conditions change and additional information becomes available.

For updates on flood response efforts, residents are encouraged to follow the City of Brandon's official communication channels.
