Public Notification – Follow-Up to July 7, 2026 Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision
The Brandon Police Service is providing an update regarding the motor vehicle collision involving a 16-year-old female pedestrian that occurred on July 7, 2026.
First and foremost, our thoughts remain with the three young females who were injured in two separate vehicle-versus-pedestrian incidents that occurred within days of each other this past month. We continue to keep them and their families in our thoughts, and we wish each of them strength, healing, and a full recovery during this difficult time.
Following a comprehensive investigation of the July 7th incident, including the review of video surveillance, examination of the collision scene, analysis of physical evidence, and consultation with Crown prosecutors, it has been determined that charges are appropriate.
The investigation determined that the vehicle was travelling at a normal rate of speed at the time of the collision. The primary contributing factor was the driver's inattention to the roadway, resulting in the vehicle striking the pedestrian.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old female has been charged with Careless Driving and has also been issued a Serious Offence Notice under The Highway Traffic Act.
