Police News Release - September 8th, 2026

Breach of the Peace / Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act

In the past 24 hours, one individual was arrested for Breach of the Peace, and two individuals in separate incidents were arrested under the Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act. All three were brought to Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells and will be released once sober.

 

Arrest Warrants

Over the past 24 hours, four individuals were arrested on their outstanding Warrants for Arrest. Two were arrested and later released via Appearance Notices/Undertakings with future court dates. Two were held for court in the morning on September 8th, 2026.

 

Assault Causing Bodily Harm

On September 7th at 10:46 a.m. it was reported that the female suspect from an Assault that occurred the night prior, had returned to a restaurant in the 200 block of 15th Street. Police attended and arrested the 48-year-old female. She was brought to BPS detention cells and will attend court in the morning on September 8th, 2026.

 

Theft Under $5000

On September 7th, police were called to a business in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue following a report of a shoplifting incident. A 47-year-old male was arrested at the scene after attempting to steal approximately $116 worth of merchandise. He was processed and later released on an Undertaking with a court date of November 19th, 2026.

 

Assault

On September 7th at 6:37 p.m., police were dispatched to Cornell Bay following a report of a male assaulting a female outside a residence. Witnesses reported seeing the male on top of the female, repeatedly punching her. The female declined to provide a statement and was taken to Brandon Hospital for follow-up care. Police learned the two were in an intimate relationship, and both parties were intoxicated. A 36-year-old male was arrested, processed, and later released on an Undertaking with a future court date of November 16th, 2026.
