Police News Release - September 13th, 2026
For the Past 24 Hours:
Mischief to Police Service Building:
At approx. 9:30 AM Saturday morning, a 41 year-old male walked to the front of the police service building carrying a sledgehammer. The male suspect then swung the sledgehammer at one of the large windows, shattering both the outer and inner panes, before walking away carrying the sledge. He was immediately confronted by officers but refused commands to drop the sledgehammer and to stop. He turned to face the officers during which conducted energy weapons were deployed, without success. As the suspect continued towards the 10th Street & Victoria Avenue intersection, he was challenged by another officer equipped with a less-than-lethal munitions weapon. The accused again refused direction and the munitions were deployed. The accused subsequently dropped the sledgehammer but refused to surrender: he was physically taken into custody. The male was held in custody and faces a number of criminal charges including mischief over $5000, assault police officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest. He will appear before the court today.
Arrest Warrants:
Early Saturday afternoon members attended to a residence in Brentwood Trailer Village for an unrelated manner and encountered a 35 year-old male who was found to be the subject of a warrant for arrest for uttering threats. He was arrested and later released on appropriate police imposed conditions and is to appear in court on October 20th in Portage la Prairie.
Just after 3:00 PM Saturday, a 41 year-old male was observed in the 0-00 block Willowdale crescent and a records query returned that he was the subject of a warrant for arrest for theft under $5000. He was arrested and later released on appropriate police imposed conditions and is to appear in court on October 15th.
During a downtown patrol late Saturday afternoon, members located a 17 year-old female known to them. A records query returned that she was the subject of an unendorsed warrant for arrest for failing to comply with a probation order. She was arrested on the strength of the warrant and held in custody to appear before the court this morning.
Just before 4:00 AM this morning, a 27 year-old male was arrested on the strength of warrant for DNA collection after he attended to BPS to make a complaint. After processing, the male was released from custody.
Others:
A total of five people were brought into custody over the past 24 hours due to their being intoxicated by alcohol and or drug and unable to care for themselves, or causing a disturbance while intoxicated. They will be released without charges upon sobering up.
