Police News Release - May 20th, 2026

Breach of the Peace

On May 19th at 10:39 p.m. a resident from the 600 block of 24th Street reported a male checking houses and vehicle doors. Caller chased him away and provided description. Police located the male one block down. The intoxicated 28-year-old male was arrested and brought to Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells to prevent the continuation of behaviour. He will be released once sober.

 

Possess Weapon / Carry Concealed Weapon

On May 20th at 12:52 a.m., staff at a motel located in the 1000 block of 18th Street reported that a male armed with a knife was attempting to smash the glass at the front entrance of the hotel area. The suspect was unable to gain entry, no damage was reported, and he left southbound while the caller remained on the line with dispatch. Police located the suspect one block down. The male was observed acting erratically and was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine. The 37-year-old male was arrested, and officers located a knife in his jacket pocket. He was transported to BPS detention cells and held for court in the morning on May 20th, 2026.

 

Arrest Warrants

In the past 24 hours six individuals were arrested on the strength of their Warrants for Arrest. One remained in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre, three remained in custody at BPS detention cells for court in the morning on May 20th, and two were released via Appearance Notice with future court dates.

 

Distribute Intimate Image without Consent

On May 5th, police received a complaint from a 19-year-old female who stated that a 20-year-old male had accessed her phone, photographed an intimate image displayed on the device using his own phone, and subsequently posted the image to social media. Following an investigation, the 20-year-old male was arrested on May 19th and charged accordingly. He was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 30th, 2026.

 

Fraud Under $5000

On May 19th police received a call advising that someone was trying to sell a sea-can for $1500 however the caller/”buyer” knew the rightful owner and is aware that the sea-cans are not for sale. (This fraud has been attempted / completed in Brandon previously.) The 49-year-old male attempting the sale was met at the arranged time and arrested and held for court in the morning on May 20th, 2026.
