Police News Release - June 1st, 2026

Arrest Warrants
Over the past 24 hours, two individuals were arrested on outstanding Warrants for Arrest. One was held in custody for court in the morning while one individual was released on an Appearance Notice with a future court date.
Breach of the Peace / Protective Detention & Care of Intoxicated Persons Act
In the past 24 hours, one individual was arrested for Breach of the Peace, while an additional individual, who was highly intoxicated, was taken into custody under the Protective Detention & Care of Intoxicated Persons Act (PDCIPA). Both will be released once sober.
Arson Causing Damage to Property
On May 31st at 8:03 a.m., a report was received that a male was lighting fires in the bush near the entrance to Dyke Road. Bylaw and BPS officers attended the area and located a male matching the description provided by the caller. The male admitted to starting the fire. The fire was extinguished, and the male was arrested and charged with Arson Causing Damage to Property. He was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on August 10th, 2026.
Assault with a Weapon
On May 31st at 11:18 a.m., police received a report of an assault in the 000 block of 10th Street. The caller advised that an unknown male had approached and assaulted another male. A description of the suspect was provided. Police attended the area and located a 31-year-old male matching the description. Witness positively identified the male through a photo and stated they believed he was holding a knife during the incident. The male suspect was arrested and held in BPS detention cells. He will be released on an Undertaking once sober. A future court date will be set upon release.
Unlawfully in a Dwelling
On June 1st at 2:11 a.m., police conducted a check of a residence after an alarm was activated in the 300 block of 16th Street. The alarm company advised that the homeowner was away from the property. Officers attended and located a 38-year-old female inside the residence. She told officers that she worked for a cleaning company and was there for housekeeping purposes. The homeowner later confirmed that no one had permission to be in the residence and that they did not employ a cleaning company.
The female was unable to provide the address of the residence or the names of the homeowners. She was arrested and lodged in BPS detention cells. Upon becoming sober, she will be released on an Undertaking. A court date of August 10th, 2026 has been scheduled.
