Police News Release - June 18th, 2026

Breach of the Peace / Protective Detention & Care of Intoxicated Persons Act

Over the past 24 hours, two individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace. An additional individual, who was highly intoxicated, was taken into custody under the Protective Detention & Care of Intoxicated Persons Act (PDCIPA). All will be released once sober.

 

Arrest Warrants

Over the past 24 hours, four individuals were arrested on outstanding Warrants for Arrest. Three were released via Appearance Notices with future court dates and one was held for court in the morning on June 18th, 2026.

 

Assault with a Weapon

On June 17th at approximately 6:10 a.m., police responded to a call requesting police assistance at a home in the 300 block of 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a husband had struck his wife with what was believed to be a large wooden stick. The 38-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Brandon Police Service (BPS) to obtain the assistance of an interpreter. Following the completion of the investigation, he was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on August 20th, 2026.

 

Failure to Attend Court

On June 17th a 49-year-old male attended BPS as he was aware he missed his court date the day prior. The male was arrested and later released via Appearance Notice with a future court date of July 16th, 2026.

 

Theft Under

On June 17th at approximately 4:23 p.m., police were contacted by a Loss Prevention Officer from a business in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue regarding a shoplifting incident. It was reported that a female had ran out of the store without paying for merchandise. Officers located and arrested the 30-year-old female a few blocks away. She was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on August 27, 2026.

Merchandise valued at more than $850 was recovered and returned to the store.
