Police News Release - August 28th, 2026

Breach of the Peace
In the past 24 hours two individuals from separate incidents were arrested for Breach of the Peace and held in Brandon Police Service (BPS) detention cells. They will be released once sober.
Arrest Warrants
Over the past 24 hours, BPS officers arrested two individuals on outstanding Warrants for Arrest. A 26-year-old male was taken into custody and brought to Brandon Police Service detention cells before being transported to Brandon Correctional Centre. He is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of August 28th, 2026.
A second individual, a 22-year-old male, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Assault with a Weapon x2 / Possession of a Weapon x2 / Utter Threats /Resist Arrest / Mischief Under $5000
On August 27th at 6:54 p.m., BPS responded to a disturbance at an apartment in the 100 block of 1st Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old female and an infant outside the residence. The female had visible injuries, including cuts to her neck and bruising on her arm, which were inflicted with a box cutter and a hammer. Her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she refused transport by EMS. Officers observed the male suspect standing in the apartment doorway holding a hammer. Although he initially came to the door, he repeatedly retreated back inside and appeared agitated while making threats toward police. Officers contained the building, and Brandon Fire & Emergency Services attended the scene after the smell of burning was detected coming from the apartment. Before the Brandon Police Service Tactical Response Unit was deployed, the suspect exited the apartment and was taken into custody without further incident. The source of the burning smell was determined to be from smudging and Brandon Fire stood down. The intoxicated male was arrested and brought to BPS detention cells. He is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of August 28th, 2026.
Flight From Police / Immediate Roadside Prohibition + Tickets
On August 28th at approximately 1:54 a.m., BPS officers observed a motorcycle travelling northbound on 34th Street at a high rate of speed before turning onto Centennial Boulevard. Officers activated their emergency lights, but the driver looked at police and continued driving for approximately a block and a half before pulling into his residence and riding directly into the backyard. Officers were able to intercept the driver before he entered the residence. The investigation revealed the 50-year-old male did not hold a valid Class 6 motorcycle license, and he failed an Approved Screening Device (ASD) test. His motorcycle was impounded for 90 days. The male was issued tickets for driving without a valid license, driving without liability insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
On August 26th at 8:50 p.m., BPS received a report of a bicycle stolen from a restaurant in the 200 block of 18th Street North. The following morning, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the complainant advised police that an AirTag attached to the bike was indicating it was at a residence in the 300 block of Cornwallis Crescent. Officers attended the residence and located the stolen bicycle in the possession of two males, along with two additional bicycles. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old male and a 49-year-old male were both arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Both individuals were released on Undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on November 9th, 2026.
